The Story

It's the last day of the New Year and the town are preparing to ring in 1986. Penny bets that Ivor and Milly won't be there and suddenly they appear. They say they're having a private party, and point out a new clock that has arrived in the garden.

Penny asks why they've not heard it chiming, but Ivor explains they're saving it. It's the largest chime in the world, and Milly invites Tony and Penny to join the party. So that night the party is getting underway. Ivor and Milly order nice food from their butler, and crisps and water for Tony and Penny. They claim they're generous because they've given them flavoured crisps.

Suddenly, Jeeves advises Midnight is approaching. Ivor and Milly relax in armchairs and send of kitchen chairs for Tony and Penny. Midnight arrives, and the first Doyng! (as it is spelt in the strip) bounces them all out of their chairs. The second makes bits of the tower fall off. The third makes the clock face fall apart and by the fourth it has collapsed completely.

Tony and Penny leave the party saying that Ivor and Milly have just carried on where they left off in 1985!

Notes

The new clock tower looks like Big Ben.
As the tower collapses, Ivor tries to command it to stay up. "I forbid it to fall down."
Christmas holly and streamers decorate the strip.
The servant who objects is called Milne.
