Best of Buster Monthly

The Best of Buster was the first proper spin off from The Buster Comic. It was first released in May 1987 to celebrate the comic's 27th Birthday. It was then released monthly until January 1995.

The comic was simply a selection of the Best of Buster (as the title might suggest!) Buster's Diary was a prominent strip in here, as well as other strips from the late 70s and 80s. It included some of the strips that were currently running (X Ray Specs, Chalky) plus the older ones like Gums, Strawbelly and Young Arfur. There was no letters page, it was much like a Holiday Special but on a more regular basis.

It's Seven and a half year run suggests it was very popular with the readers. Indeed, Whizzer & Chips and Whoopee followed suit with both Best of's outliving their respective comics. The demise of The Best of Buster could well be due to a new comic on the horizon as a matter of months later, Buster, Whizzer & Chips, Whoopee and Big Comic Fortnightly were bought back to life in BVC.
